Computer Science
WHAT IS COMPUTER SCIENCE?
Computer Science is concerned in the broadest sense with the study of computers and applications of computers. Its development was stimulated by the use of computers in many areas, such as Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics and Business. Yet Computer Science involves much more than just developing techniques for these application areas. Computer Science is offered as a specialist and major.
REQUESTING ENTRANCE TO THE COMPUTER SCIENCE SPECIALIST OR MAJOR WITH MAT133Y5/134Y5/135Y5
Although the catalog lists MAT137Y5 as the calculus course required for the Computer Science specialist and major, students who have obtained credit for MAT133Y5, MAT134Y5, or MAT135Y5 do not need to take MAT137Y5 to be accepted into a Computer Science POST.
- If you have obtained a mark of 60 or higher in MAT134Y5 or MAT135Y5, obtain credit in MAT232H5 and then apply to the specialist or major. You must obtain a mark of 60 or higher in MAT232H5 to be accepted into the specialist. When you apply for graduation, MAT134Y5/MAT135Y5 will be accepted in lieu of MAT137Y5.
- If you have obtained a mark of 80 or higher in MAT133Y5, you may submit a petition to be admitted to the specialist or major after obtaining credit in MAT233H5. You must obtain a mark of 60 or higher in MAT233H5 to be accepted into the specialist. In either case, you must also satisfy a minimum CGPA requirement to be determined annually. For more information, please review this year's calendar and then contact the Faculty Advisor with further questions.
